The first Racing for Wildlife conservation project is the restoration of Michigan's Mill Lake Youth Camp. Located about 30 miles north of Michigan International Speedway in the 20,000-acre Waterloo Recreation Area, the historic camp was built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s.
Situated on scenic Mill Lake, the camp offers excellent recreation and fishing opportunities. The only problem is that the camp has fallen into disrepair and is not functional or safe for families to use. The restoration of this camp is a priority for the state of Michigan, but there are no state funds to make the repairs. That’s why Ryan teamed up with Racing for Wildlife. With the help of racing fans and families in Michigan and across the nation, we can restore Mill Lake back to its former glory. Read more about why Ryan wants to restore Mill Lake>>
Once restored, the camp will re-open to families, providing youth activities, family events and individual fun activities in a year-round facility that can accommodate over 140 people. The Mill Lake Youth Camp is just a short drive away for many Michigan residents and race fans and its restoration will introduce a new generation of kids to the great outdoors in Southern Michigan.
To officially kick off the Racing for Wildlife Mill Lake Youth Camp project, Racing for Wildlife and the Ryan Newman Foundation gathered with our partners at Victory Lane on June 13 for a brief ceremony promoting our restoration efforts at Mill Lake Youth Camp.
